Celtic designs are known for their elaborate spirals and knotwork.  It can be found on stonework, crosses, metal work, jewelry, and illuminated manuscripts such as the Book of Kells and the Linsfarne Gospels. The designs are intricate and structural.  The Psalter Sampler incorporates key patterns, scrolls and knotwork. The shape was inspired by a page from the Book of Kells.
The nobles of Celtic society were known as Chieftains.  They had the privilege of owning land and farmed and raised cattle, sheep, pigs and horses. Celtic women could also occupy these positions.
I have cross-stitched these designs from patterns by Mike Vickery.

One of these designs was taken from the decorative detail at the base of a handle of a 5th century bronze vessel. One is a bronze engraving and one is a coin.
