We start in the capitol of Ireland, Dublin where you would see a statue lined main street and elegant Georgian squares. Saint Patrick's cathedral is here as well as Trinity College with the famous 1200 year old Book of Kells.A church has stood here since the 5th century. In 1191 the Norman's built a church here. The present cathedral dates from the early 13th century.
West is the cemetery at Clomnacois, County Offaly, founded in 545 A.D.
Traveling south are the ruins of the center of Christianity founded by Saint Kevin in Glendalough.
The oldest handweaving mill in Ireland is in Avoca. You might see the sheep being sheared to make those world renowned Irish sweaters.
Further along is the Rock of Cashel where Saint Patrick preached.
In Kildare is the Irish national stud whose fine racehorses command world respect.
Next is the stronghold founded by the Danish Vikings in 853, Waterford, and the Waterford Crystal factory. Here you can watch the artisans at work cutting the crystal.
In County Cork is the Blarney Castle. Visitors lay on their back and lean to kiss the famous stone to acquire the gift of eloquence.
Now you cross the Kerry Mountains to the beautiful Lakes of Killarney.
If it's late summer you could watch the crowning of the Rose of Tralee at the festival in County Kerry.
Heading North you can see the Dingle Peninsula before seeing the prizewinning thatched cottages in the village of Via Adare.
Next is Limerick with Saint Mary's Cathedral and King John's Castle. The Stone where the Treaty of Limerick was signed in 1691 is here.
Further North are the awesome Cliffs of Moher on the Clare Coast. They rise 668 feet above the Atlantic Ocean. |
