| The dove is a symbolic bird with many meanings. In the classical world it was associated with Venus and came to represent peace, harmony and loyalty. They were also linked with healing and represented the transition from one spiritual state to another. The book of Kells was written to honor God and Saint Columba. The dove n the book of Kells represents the image of God as the Holy Spirit. Columba is Latin for dove and the Irish translation means dove of the church. The Irish have chosen this international symbol of peace to represent love, friendship and peace in their homeland. |
