The patroness of the Green Isle is Saint Brighid, patron saint of scholars, creativity, and sprituality. She knew at a young age that she wanted to be a nun. A feast day is held in her honour February 1st. Many legendary, extravagant, and fantastic miracles have been attributed to her. Every year people go on a pilgrimage to Saint Brighid's shrine in Faughart. They place their head into the circular area in the stone praying for a cure for their head ailments. They also kneel and lay praying for a healing. The eye stone contains a constant flow of holy water.
